From the bottom of our hearts at Truth Be Told News, we give immeasurable gratitude to our VETERANS and service members, both at home and abroad. Our rights, especially the First Amendment rights we practice here on this paper, could not be secured or guaranteed without their sacrifice.
Thank you!!!
To relegate everything they’ve done for our country into November 11th seems insufficient. Perhaps “pride month” should be a single day, while November becomes VETERANS MONTH? The point is, a single day is not enough. Calvin Coolidge once said:
“The nation which forgets its defenders will be itself forgotten.”
With the above quote in mind, and the distractions of election season suddenly no longer present, we hope you’ll take some time to think about the VETERANS in this country and the challenges they are currently living with.
One issue still not getting enough attention is the VETERAN suicide rate. Depending on the year and source of data, daily VETERAN suicides average between 17 and 25 per day, putting the annual average in excess of 6,000 VETERAN suicides per year.
For context, the ongoing War on Terror (2001–present) has resulted in approximately 7,000 deaths. We’re losing more VETERANS to themselves after they return home, and in numbers that exceed many American conflicts, both recent and historical.
Experts will continue deliberating on causes and how to prevent it, but the fact remains: with the VETERAN suicide rate as high as it is, our country is failing and forgetting those who served us.
If you or someone you know is experiencing or struggling with suicidal thoughts, don’t wait to ask them. Reach out and get help immediately.
You can dial the VETERAN Crisis Line at 988 (press 1) or text 838255 for confidential crisis support at any time.
Remember: we, the people, are with you.
